As you can see, I chose to name my blog stressfanatic. The reason behind this is that for as long as I can remember, I have always been the stressful type-A personality. I do everything to the max... 4.0 GPA, my house is spotless, I keep several to do lists, you name it. This has gotten me very far in life however, I need to change my ways. I am hoping this class will help give me a few ideas of how to start. I know stress is a bad thing to do daily but how do we stop this vicious cycle?
My reflection upon Journey
On meditation activity: I found this technique very helpful for beginners
meditation. In yoga to get one body part to really relax, our yogi always says
" think about yourself as an ice cube melting into the floor" and
believe it or not, that image really helps me relax and quit thinking. Meditation
is so unique and hard to accomplish for many. For me, it is unbelievable how
hard it is to 'clear my mind' when I actually try to. I have found that yoga
helps because I'm so exhausted and relaxed by the end when we meditate I can
really get out of my head. I would love to learn how to meditate at night because
I believe it would help me sleep much better.
Hello Ashley
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the night time meditation it is so hectic at night around my house. From homework to cooking dinner, showering all of the kids, me relaxing just does not happen. I would love to be able to take a few quite moments for myself.

Congrats on your 4.0 GPA. That is pretty amazing that you are able to do so much and still manage to keep up with your school work. High five to you! I am also a stressful type person and its been hard for me to take the time to relax. This was actually the first relaxation technique that really worked. I was kinda of freaked out about it because I could actually feel my arms and hands get heavy and not be able to move them. Usually when I try these techniques I either fall asleep or I just can't get my mind to stop racing! Good luck this session!
ReplyDeleteI to am a type a personality. I always have a list that I need to take care of, and if I do not finish the list I become stressed. I need to start making smaller lists, lol. I to have 4.0 and it has been very stressful to keep this. I have never had a 4.0 in college before. This is my second degree. I had a 3.8 in highschool, and I never thought this would happen to me.
ReplyDeleteYou can meditate at night by just laying down on your bed, and concentrate on your breathing. It takes about 2 minutes to clear your thoughts and then you can have a relaxing sleep. It is good to meditate before you go to sleep so that way you can get a good nights rest.

Hi, I applaud those that do meditation and are successful at it. I am not one of those people. In all honesty meditation is not something I am overly interested in. I would rather have a massage, take a walk in nature or read something pleasurable. Maybe I should give the nighttime meditation a try.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI too like to make lists for myself, but I also like to make them up for my children and husband. This is a way that they know what has to be done during the day. That is really great that you have a 4.0 average. I have a 3.65. Which is really good for me since when I was in special ed. throughout my elementary and highschool days. This has really been an eye opener for me, that you can do anything you want to as long as you set your mind to it. Going to college has always been a dream of mine, but I had very low self esteem until I met my husband. He encouraged me to at least try because he had faith in me. I tried and past and got excepted into kaplan. Now, I have only 14 months and I will be finished with my academics and can start my internship and go to my other college in VA. to finsh up and become an RN.
Good luck this term!!
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is hard to stop doing all the things we think we are suppose to do. As a whole we think we are the only ones to get things done the way we want them done. We forget that we need to stop and relax and just do nothing a few minutes out of our day. Stop and be an ice cube melting on the floor and smell the roses while you are there.

Hello Ashely
ReplyDeleteYou have the same name as my baby. I enjoy you post and I alway find myselp giving Papa wisdom out and I tell people don't worrie about the past and look to the future because help is alway on the way you may not see it but it there. As you know your mind help in healing of your body.As we focusing on our emotions which are important to healing of any disease anxiety, stress, and other mental factors play a role in disease. If the mind is not healthy the body will not be, we have to work our way from the soul out in healing. Reducing stress has been proven to elevate many health problems for people. Meditation and Yoga are good stress relievers and will reduce anxiety in the mind and body.
I think it is great to mix the over responsible with a little carelessness. I have the same problem of being overstressed and getting everything done a.s.a.p. I love that my boyfriend is the opposite, he keeps me grounded and makes sure we find time for relaxation. With his help I am able to mix my life comfortable with work and play.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 4.0! You are doing an awesome job! I too am a Type A personality, always have "to do lists" and get stressed when I can't finish them. This is part of what makes us successful :) I do find that taking time out of the day for yourself, as you do in yoga, does tend to help lessen the weight of the load that you are carrying. I know that I feel much better on days that I spend at least 30 minutes at the gym. This helps me get through the rest of my tasks more focused and probably makes up for the 30 minutes that I spent there. I wish I had some good advice for how to stop your mind before bed to get a more restful sleep. I am usually so tired that I fall asleep before I finish my nightly prayers :)
Hi Ashley! I am the same way when it comes to completing a task or a goal, I do everything to the letter, very overly detailed and just want to do my best and not let anyone down. I take letting myself very hard as well. I am trying so hard to change that about myself. However, I do try not to let myself be defeated by stress. I wish that I could say that I was over organized and had everything completed way before deadline, but I do not. However, I have learned that I need to a few minutes out of every day to try to center myself and relax. Being a mom, wife, student and working full time makes this me time more challenging, but I do find it even if it's a long shower and I can just relax. I also like to do yoga!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes this term.
I enjoy Yoga as well but found that I needed a more knowledgeable instructor. She only knew a few poses and it became redundant after six weeks. I was amazed at how easy it is to relax when you put your mind to it!
